In the spring of 1990, Prior installed a state of the art Herr Voss slitting line which included a "Strand Extensioner." The "Strand Extensioner" can stretch (extend) individual cuts (strands) to compensate for crown and other shape problems that may be in the coils. The "Stand Extensioner" has the same operating principles of a tension leveler. By precision adjustment of the work rolls, uniform recoiling tension is maintained across the full width of the slit coil. The results are tightly wound coils with flat side walls and no burr.
