The Metal Coating Process at Prior
Metals and Finishes
1. Uncoilers Two spindles make possible continuous operation when a new coil is started.
2. Coil Joining Press
Attaches beginning of new coil to end of preceding coil.
3. Entry End Accumulator The accumulator "stores" moving sheet while uncoilers are stopped to join each consecutive coil.
4. Pretreatment Section Surface treatment for good adhesion includes a combination of cleaning and clear-water rinses plus accurately metered chemical pre-treatments depending on substrate.
5. Coater Coatings are applied to both sides of strip with the use of urethane rollers.
6. Curing Oven Ambient temperatures up to 750ºF can be generated-temperature used depending on coating, metal thickness, and line speed- to effect a cure in 20 to 40 seconds.
7. Quench Station Cold water chills the coating before it comes in contact with rolls or bridles.
8. Exit-End This unit "stores" metal strip to allow continuous operation while finished coil is being removed.
9. Inspection Station Strip is checked at this station for final quality.
10. Exit-End Recoiler Finished coil ready for shipment or slitting to customer's request.
